Geology

The Ogboyega coal block covers about 287,600 hectares of land. Coal crops out in the creeks at the base of the Enugu Escarpment at approx. 250 meters to 300 meters above sea level. Sandstone rich zones such as the Ajali Sandstone form small escarpments that in turn make up the larger Enugu Escarpment. The primary coal horizon, no.3 Coal seam, generally is exposed at the base of the Enugu Escarpment, and appear to extend from the eastern side of the basin and continue under the Udi plateau to crop put along the western margin of the basin near Dekina.

Exploration

Limited drilling and sampling within the Ogboyega area has been carried out, Coal thickness ranges from 1.5 meters to 2.0 meters and averages 1.78meters
Analysis indicates coal quality is variable and averages 29.97MJ/Kg (5,495Kcal/Kgor 9,900Btu), 9.64% ash and 0.58% sulphur on a received basis.
