Reuters reveals Indigenous group seeks stake in Woodside’s $12 bln Scarborough, Pluto LNG project

Reuters was first to report that a Western Australian Indigenous group is in talks with Woodside Petroleum over obtaining a stake in its $12 billion Scarborough and Pluto LNG expansion to help secure the future of the local traditional owners. The Murujuga Aboriginal Corp (MAC) and its traditional owners confirmed it was in discussion after Woodside gave the final go-ahead in November for the biggest new gas project in Australia in a decade. The project has alarmed conservationists worried about the impact the project might have on one of the world’s largest collections of ancient rock art on MAC’s adjacent land.
